The star of the day was our youngest volunteer, Martell. Thanks to papa Freddy for introducing him to us.
Enthusiastic R.U.M. volunteers aka RUMblers made their way to Ubin bright and early to set up the booth. Thank you!
At the RUM booth, we shared about the Ecological Mangrove Restoration method, and how we hope to use it to naturally restore mangroves at abandoned aquaculture ponds on Pulau Ubin.
We had mangrove seedlings, tasty food from the mangroves, mangrove fact sheets and more on display at the R.U.M. mangrove booth! Prof Dan brought some mangrove face powder and other cool products to share with our visitors.
We also gave out FREE mangrove colouring sheets!
We were glad to be able to meet so many visitors and share about mangroves at our mangrove booth!

During the tour, our guides explained about the importance of mangroves, not only to the environment, but also as a source of food and income for Ubin's fishermen. They also shared about how R.U.M. plans to help regrow the mangroves at abandoned aquaculture ponds on Ubin using ecological mangrove restoration. Jean Liew shared this group photo of the first tour and said "Thank you for the walk." Thank YOU Jean and friends for joining us.
It was a little difficult to get a crowd in the afternoon, even with advertising at the Jetty.
But a small group makes for a more fun trip, and everyone ended up taking an extended walk.
A quick beer stop before the walk kept the spirits up!
We are also thrilled about the first public screening at Pulau Ubin of 'Ubin, Sayang', a gorgeous film by Rachel Quek and her team about the people of Ubin and the Restore Ubin Mangroves (R.U.M.) Initiative.
We are glad to have been able to reach out to all the amazing visitors who came to visit. Thank you for coming, and we hope you had fun learning with us! A big thank you as well to all the volunteers who came to support R.U.M. , we couldn't have done it without you!
