Here's Germaine sharing more about Ubin mangroves and restoration efforts. In the film, Prof Dan shares how he came to Singapore to study our mangroves. Singapore has 35 of the 60 species found globally.
Germaine and Prof Dan at the R.U.M. restoration site. An abandoned aquaculture pond that is currently too deep for mangroves. Once we fix the ecological conditions, mangroves will settle there naturally.
In the film Prof Dan also shares how mangroves can mitigate climate change by storing carbon. In fact, mangroves are much better at this, they are super carbon storers, compared to other ecosystems! Here's the hardworking film crew among the mangroves at Ubin.
It's tough filming outdoors. I remember it rained suddenly too during the filming. Bravo to everyone and thank you for featuring R.U.M.
